TRADE SECRETS: CHARLESTON
Immediately following casting of MAGIC MIKE XXL in Savannah, I started a workshop series called TRADE SECRETS, designed for people who wanted to purse acting as a career. In smaller markets such as Richmond and Savannah, these workshops opened the doors for hundreds of people who had only worked as extras on films and television shows and wanted to purse acting as a career or at least a super fun hobby.
From that first class in Savannah, a former correctional officer in a prison system booked a feature opposite Katie Holmes and Michael Caine. A young woman booked a series recurring on British series called LIVING THE DREAM. And dozens of Savannah actors booked roles on projects over the next few years.
TRADE SECRETS is designed for people who have lots of questions about the business. And it's a safe place to ask questions that you simply don't have an answer.
The Southeast market is thriving, but there are not a lot of opportunities to ask questions about the basics of getting started and we all have to start somewhere.
After TRADE SECRETS became a massive success, I launched BASE CAMP: SAVANNAH, bringing in teachers, actors, and speakers to help grow the market.
After spending four amazing years in Savannah and helping launch the market, I pursued my own acting, writing and directing career. But I'm back!
I'm happy to announce, TRADE SECRETS is back in Charleston, South Carolina on March 25-26, 2023!
So you want to be a working actor? What are you doing right and more importantly… what are you doing WRONG?
This two-day intensive will go over the following topics:
SATURDAY – March 25 – 10 AM – 5 PM: THE BASICS OF BUSINESS
Open to anyone at any level of acting, ages 15 and older.
Highlights of the workshop include:
–“So you want to be an actor…”–Background Work–SAG/ AFTRA–“How Do I Get an Agent?”–Headshot and Resume Evaluation – IS IT RIGHT!?–Branding Yourself with Social Media–DO IT RIGHT: Self-taping Auditions–Auditioning in the Room and Other Things That Get You Dead–How to Be a Working Actor Outside of LA and NY–Creating Your Own Content
ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ASKED TO TAPE A “SELF-TAPE” IN ADVANCE to be reviewed and critiqued in class, but is NOT mandatory.
SUNDAY – MARCH 26 – 10 AM – 5 PM: COLD READING TECH – ACTORS WORKOUT
We go deeper with “sides” (scenes from the script) given out in advance. Every audition is different. Some use improvisation. Some are scripted. Some are pages of dialogue and some are just one line. Each experience in class will be different for each actor.
–“Attacking the material” – Script evaluation. What do they want?!–What can you use to substitute–Character bios “the questions.” ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ASKED TO TAPE A “SELF-TAPE” IN ADVANCE to be reviewed and critiqued in class. (Self-tape is not mandatory)
EACH INDIVIDUAL CLASS IS $100 OR $125 FOR BOTH DAYS. (Please note that Sunday is limited to 20 participants)
